IIT-Delhi on Thursday said that they will conduct all of classes online for the upcoming semester’s due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This decision comes after IIT- Mumbai branch announced the same decision earlier.
IIT-Delhi director said that, institute will follow the recommendations that were made by a sub-committee on the minimum common strategy to be followed by all IITs. “We do not have a choice this year. We will follow the sub committee’s report, which recommends online mode to conduct classes for the upcoming semester,” he said.
All the programs will be conducted in online mode for all courses, with different evaluation methods through viva, quizzes, , online exams, etc.
Students can also take online classes from their hostels. No individual shall be forced to return to campus. One can take relevant safety, quarantine and safe travel measures, according to them.
The institute will shift the laboratory component of the courses to a later part of the academic year, as recommended by the sub-committee.But the situation will be discussed in October 2020 again.
The institute will also give a chance to the PhD students, who need resources for their research can return to the campus according to their wish, after July 20.
The institute will also formulate standard operating procedures (SOP) for various research, administration, teaching and hostel activities to stop the spread of coronavirus.
IIT-Delhi has thousands of students at its Hauz Khas campus.
