This esteemed college affiliated to Delhi University embarked its journey in 1920, on the auspicious day of Basant Panchmi. Formally known as Commercial College, the educational institution was built by seven superior businessmen of Delhi. The establishment of the Commercial College paved the entry of commerce education in the system of University of Delhi.
After the initial glorious years, the college saw an upgradation to Degree college with an introduction of B.A. Honours (Commerce Group), M. A. Economics and Commerce courses in 1948. Second in line was B.Com Honours in 1949.
In 1951, on the occasion of the silver jubilee, the Commercial College decided to specialize in the field of commerce and economics and hence rechristened itself as Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in recognition of the contribution made by its founder Sir Shri Ram. After three years, in 1954 the college relocated itself to the present day location known as North Campus of University of Delhi.
