HINDU COLLEGE

Hindu College has got it all to charm the students – the enormous red entrance with “Hindu College” written in bold, the green surroundings, the cozy vibe and the vibrant environment for students to flourish. Being one of the oldest constitute of Delhi University, Hindu College has been standing tall since the year 1899. Late Shri Krishna Dassji Gurwale built this institution in the backdrop of nationalist struggle against British Raj to provide education facilities to the youth. First being positioned at Chandni Chowk and affiliated to Punjab University, Hindu College was among the first three colleges with Ramjas College and St. Stephen College which was affiliated to Delhi University in 1922. 

 

In the initial stage, Hindu College served its purpose as a political debate centre for intellectuals, especially in the time of Quit India Movement. Since 1933, this college provided a platform to many national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Annie Besant, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Subhash Chandra Bose for motivating the youth. Responding to Gandhi’s Quit India Movement in 1942, the college played a substantial role in India’s freedom struggle and some of this college’s teachers and students courted arrest.

 

Hindu College has been ranked as one of the top colleges of Delhi University for several years now. It’s quality education, active societies,  improved  placements, all-rounder sport activities, and high-quality infrastructure acts as a magnet for students from all over India. 

 

Spread over 25 acres, the infrastructure of Hindu College is quite attractive. It has spacious classrooms with talented faculty. Over the past years, it has introduced various courses in the field of commerce, science and arts; both in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Additionally, the college is equipped with a full air-conditioned library which is a paradise of great ideas which opens up the windows for the world. It has a collection of more than 116968 books and subscribes to 18 newspapers and 50 journals and magazines. The computerised library gives access to more than 43000 e-journals through Delhi University. 

 

Hindu College is a place where the students get an opportunity to cherish their visions and dreams. The college includes a large auditorium which is capacitated to encompass 900 individuals, a bank inside the campus for convenience, a voluminous hostel for far-away students, an air-conditioned gym to make students healthy, a full equipped health centre, enormous fields for sports, sizeable seminar hall to conduct sessions and a food court to merge ideas with food. 

 

This educational institute has gained a reputable foothold among the other colleges in North Campus for its excellence performance. As per NIRF rankings, Hindu College ranks #3 in all over India.  The average fees for each undergraduate course is Rs. 27000. 

 

Apart from academics, Hindu College makes sure that every student enjoys their college life. The annual fest ‘MECCA’ is known to be one of the biggest. The fest with the unique name is extremely popular amongst the student community and witnesses massive crowds in attendance. Each year, students come together to witness the sensational performances of Amit Trivedi, Sukhwinder Singh, Salim-Sulaiman, Vishal-Shekhar, Rekha Bharadwaj, Mohit Chauhan, Javed Akhtar, Papon and many more. 

 

Hindu college has also a name to have reputed companies for placements. Some of the renowned companies are Google, Deloitte, HDFC, KPMG, Maruti, Jaypee, Ernst and Young, Protiviti, DE Shaw, Essar and Royal Sundaram Alliance. The placement percentage every year is around 92%, with an average package of 8.4 lakhs and highest package 29 lakhs. 

 

Furthermore, some of the notable alumni of Hindu College is Imtiaz Ali, Arnab Goswami, Arjun Rampal, Vishal Bhardwaj, Gautam Gambhir, Tisca Chopra, Manoj Kumar, Meenakshi Lekhi, Rekha Bhardwaj, Ajay Jadeja, Ashish Vidyarthi, Hardeep Singh Puri and the list goes on from IAS, politicians, businessman etc.
