This year, the authorities were forced to install phone jammers at exam hall as cheating has been so abundant in entrance test for LLB course at DU. Last year, after eight FIRs were filed by university claiming mass cheating, the authorities decided this year also to give aspirants at the end of exam “response sheets” that copied the answers  they had entered in online tests so they couldn’t allegate wrong answers due to technical errors.

According to university officials, jammers were sourced from government of India. A university official said that they didn’t publicise in advance because it would have impeded their efforts. But before the  exams were conducted, all the measures are tested and planned.

Last year in the investigation case related to cheating found that the aspirants had engaged a WhatsApp feature to connect with people outside the exam center for help about correct answers.

Vinay Gupta, Dean of Examinations, DU, said that it was a challenge for them but they used technology to advantage and brought clarity into the system. Alongside installing jammers, he said that university also expanded the lectures from faculty of universities across India at test centres i.e, where exams were held.

To improve accuracy and clarity of system, Satish, OSD Examinations, said that aspirants were given option of obtaining a response sheet, it should be cautious of any breakdown of online portal during entrance test.

Meanwhile, for SOL entrance exams, DU changed venue of exams from usual private and government schools to university colleges. An exam department official said that they would have their own permanent lecturers overseeing the proceedings.
From 2019, another layer will be added of security to further filter out the cheats, but did not disclose the details, department added.
