​The Delhi University is likely to continue with its policy of adjustment of marks on pro-rata basis while calculating eligibility marks for applicants, who have studied subjects that have practical component of more than 30%.

“In case, the subject to be considered has 60% theory and 40% practical component, then the marks of theory and practical are converted to 70% and 30% respectively on pro-rata basis. The new marks are considered for calculation of ‘best of four’,” a DU official explained.

The university was earlier planning to do away with the policy and instead calculate the ‘best of four’, which is the eligibility marks, with the total marks scored in the subject.The move could have benefited candidates from state boards as many of them have a higher practical component for some subjects. Many humanities and vocational subjects also have a practical component.

“But we will continue with the existing policy of pro-rata calculation of marks for subjects with practical component,” the official said.

According to DU’s admission rule, the university accepts marks with 70% theory and 30% practical component of exam as awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education. For applicants who do not fulfil the criteria, marks are calculated on pro-rata basis.

Till 2016, the university deducted 10 marks or 2.5 percentage points from the score of applicants whose ‘best of four’ included subjects not having 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practical. The online registration process for undergraduate courses is starting from May 15 and is likely to end in starting of June third week. The first cutoff list is likely to be announced by the end of June.This year, DU is planning to only announce five cutoff lists and conduct central counselling for remaining seats in the undergraduate seats.
