College societies make our college life enjoyable and more interesting. Colleges under Delhi University have lots of societies like Commerce society, economics society, dramatics society, music society, etc. Every society conduct auditions and interviews to select their team.

 

We all know about NSS right?

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

i. understand the community in which they work

ii. Understand themselves in relation to their community

iii. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving

iv. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility

v. utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

vi. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

vii. Gain skills in mobilising community participation

viii. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

ix. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and x. practise national integration and social harmony

 

DU also have a handful of NSS cells. Some of them are shining diamond which enlighten their college with at most shine. The list of the societies that overcome their problem with a unique creative style are given below.

1. PGDAV College

NSS Cell of this college was established on the auspicious occasion of birth Platinum Jubilee of one of the most selfless man, “Bapu”, in 1969. Being an initiative by the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, this scheme covered 37 universities and 40,000 hardworking students whose basic idea was to give a personality boost with the help of selfless social work. NSS PGDAV is one of the most active and awarded NSS Unit in University of Delhi.

2. Sri Ram College of Commerce

“In your happiness, we find our own” : The very spirit of NSS Cell of this College helps to channelize energy and idealism of individuals into selfless community service. The NSS society aims to sensitize individuals throughout the year by means of myriad activities ranging from social support, blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, etc.

Volunteers work with an unbridled enthusiasm and zest to make a difference to the society. Thus, NSS through its endeavours helps in the development of a sense of social responsibility and holistic development of the community to which we owe a lot.

3. College of Vocational Studies

The National Service Scheme of this college provides a platform to the College students to get associated with projects of community service.
The scheme aims to build a spirit of social responsiveness among the students to enable them to become responsible and active citizens of the country. In the process of actual community work, the students are expected to acquire awareness of the various issues faced by the country and society and also develop skills of leadership and collective work.

4. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce

NSS SGGSCC is the official NSS society under Sri Guru Gobind Singh college Of Commerce, DU. It work for the welfare of society by uplifting the weaker section.

Its main objective is selfless ‘SEVA’. It aims to build among young generation social sensitivity and activated patriotism.

5. Deshbandhu College

The motto of NSS cell of this college is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of self-less service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also consideration for fellow human beings. Therefore NSS volunteers shall strive for the well being of the society.
