Raising concerns over the sky touching cut-offs with several colleges having as high as 98 percent cut-off, a group of students who could not score 90+ percent in boards is protesting for drop in cut-offs.
Praveen Kumar, a former student of Government Sarvodaga Bal Vidyalaya, scoring 47 percent in 12 says that there should be a superior right of government school students on government colleges.
This protest is led by Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), a students group, in the north campus. Which claims that the the cut-offs are kept high to keep higher education beyond the reach of economically deprived section.
Many experts cite reasons such as increase in number of applicants and better CBSE results for the sky touching Cut-offs. The protesting students have also raised concern on the HRD Ministry’s autonomy move. “As when the colleges will become autonomous, the managing trusts will have to charge higher fees as fund from UGC would be withdrawn. The funds amount for 95% of the total expenses.” Claim the members of KYS.
