Seven DU students go on strike to protest against hike in application fees

On Thursday, seven students, including alumni of the University of Delhi went on a one-day hunger strike to protest against the hike in fees by the University for undergraduate courses.

This hike is the logical outcome of privatisation of higher education through withdrawal of government funds and replacements of UGC grants with loans from HEFA. The people of the marginalised catagory are the ones who are worst affected by it.

The protesters demanded refund of the ‘extra’ registration fees charged this year. Along with this, they demanded the entrance exam papers to be available in hindi as well.

The All India Students’ association (AISA), of which these students are a part, has held several protests earlier this month, after the authorities repeatedly postponed to conduct a meeting regarding the issue
