Manifesto released, Promises made; CYSS-AISA alliance

The Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS- Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) student wing) and the All India Students Association (AISA) announced a coalition on Wednesday, August 29 for the Delhi University Students Union elections scheduled on September 12.

The manifesto, jointly released by the alliance on September 1 for the polls have included institution of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs), reasonably priced accommodation, conveyance for students and a campaign against denationalisation and “commercialisation” of higher education in their list of commitments this year.

Atishi Marlena, a senior AAP leader promised to set up student clinics and push to install CCTV cameras and police booths as a measure against hooliganism and sexual harassment cases which will complement the “zero tolerance policy” if elected.

Kawalpreet Kaur, AISA DU president said, “While AISA will contest the posts of president and vice-president, CYSS will compete for secretary and joint secretary.”

Reportedly, Akashdeep Tripathi, the presidential candidate of SFI in the DUSU polls was charged in the meantime by some representatives of the National Students Union of India (NSUI- Congress student wing) at north campus on Saturday when he had gone to file his nomination around 4:20pm. According to SFI State Secretrary, Prashant Mukherjee, 10-12 SUV cars came in attempt to kidnap Akashdeep to cease him from filing his nomination and was violently assaulted by them when he resisted.

“None from NSUI was present in that group. The SFI is falsely implicating NSUI,” claimed Akshay Lakra, NSUI Delhi coordinator, denying the charges.
Thereafter, a police complaint was registered to look into the matter more accurately.
