One of the several new things that students experience after joining colleges of Delhi University is studying in only women’s colleges.
Girls colleges, despite being situated in the same locality as that of co-ed colleges, are in numerous ways different from them. Firstly, the absence of boys make a huge difference in the atmosphere of the college. There is less violence and chaos. Girls are active and loud, but in completely different spheres.
One ideology prevalent in almost all girls college would be feminism . Only women’s colleges nurture strong feminists over the years. Student feel that the absence of ‘male gaze’ makes them feel more free and confident. Hence there is an openness in the atmosphere. There is a general warmth, compassion and a sense of security amongst the students.
The interpretation of literary texts is complete different in women’s colleges as compared to that of co-ed colleges. Patriarchy is strongly criticised and feminism is preached
