DUTA wrote letter to HRD Minister

President of Delhi University teachers association (DUTA), Rajib Ray has written a letter to the Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar, urging him to bring an ordinance or a bill to restore the 200 point reservation foster for appointment of SC/ST faculty members.

The Allah high court had filed a petition in the supreme court for taking a department as a unit for reservation instead of the college or the university as a whole. This would have reduced the percentage of reserved seats by 50%. They argued that constitutionally mandated percentages of reservation would not be met if each department is treated as a unit, given their small size.

If this was not done, then a large number of teachers belonging to the reserved categories, who were working on an ad-hoc basis would be forced to leave the educational institutions. DUTA has also highlighted the plight of ad-hoc teachers who would be affected by the absence of the 200 point roster.
