June 5, 2018: The wait of almost 16 Lakh students is over as NEET 2018-19 results have been announced.
According to the reports, Kalpana Kumari has bagged the first position by scoring 691 marks out of 720 (99.99%), getting full in biology and 171 and 160 out of 180 in Physics and Chemistry respectively.
This academic year, 6,34,897 students has passed the NEET exam and has scored over 50%.
As much as the students are rejoicing their marks, the news of Union Health Ministry banning 82 medical colleges (12 Government and 70 Private Colleges) from accepting students for this academic season has put a damp on their mood.
More over, the government has rejected the proposal of establishing new medical colleges, rejecting 68 (31 new Government colleges and 37 new Private colleges) approvals.
This decision has led to the decrease of total MBBS seats from around 64,000 to 54,000, approximately 10,000 seats have been blocked.
A MCI academic committee member said, “People want to create things (medical colleges) without realizing what the colleges requires.”
