AAP to launch teachers’ wing in DU ahead of 2019 LS polls

After launching its youth wing, with its eyes set on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to launch its teachers’ wing in the national Capital especially in the University of Delhi. The AAP is expected to launch the teacher’s wing by the next week.

With teachers association, AAP will is also planning to form research and non-teaching association in Delhi University. The name of wing will be ‘Delhi Teachers Association’ (DTA), Delhi Research Association (DRA) and Delhi Non-Teaching Staff Association (DNTSA).

Among the 63 colleges of Delhi University (DU), there are 21 undergraduate colleges that are funded by the AAP ruled Delhi Government. The Government has worked and is working a lot for the development and up-gradation of the school education, now the time has also come to focus on the development of higher education.

As per the sources, till 2004, like teachers and students union, DU also had a research association known as Delhi University Research Association (DURA). However, the AAP has decided to revive the closed union this year in which students of Post Graduate(PG), MPhill and PhD are expected to join.

“In DU, the research scholars are those who don’t have any support or platform where they can go and share their problem and take it to the administration level to get it solved. This around 10 scholars got admission in the varsity after they filed a case in the court and this was the first time that such thing happened. Thus, if an association will be there to take up the issue of the research scholars, the problems they face will be solved at the varsity itself,” said a member of AAP who is closely working on the teacher’s wing.

Further as per sources, one candidate from the upcoming AAP’s-Delhi Teachers Association will fight the DU’s Academic Council (AC) and Executive Council (EC) polls which will be held in February 2019. The tentative date for the launch of AAP’s teacher’s wing is 18th December.

“In the start around 250  teachers will join the union as its members and further, the association will see a participation of members from various colleges in big numbers,” added further.

While the members of other teachers union affiliated to Congress party and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) said that the AAP is only playing politics ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

“This is not the first time that party is launching a teacher’s wing, it always silently launches its teachers wing during the election in DU and never works for the welfare of the teachers and never raise the issues faced by the teachers. Yes, this time it will promote it widely keeping in the mind the upcoming 2019 elections,” said Pankaj Garg, Member of AC and Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC), DU.
