As the web browser, Google Chrome turned 10 on September 2 and has teased a surprise for the users. The browser has undergone a lot of upgrades and updates over years since its inception and also holds on to its position in the market. On Saturday, a post surfaced on the official handle of the web browser company, it was a GIF which showed a cake. In the post, it stated that the company has planned a surprise for its users that will be revealed on Tuesday. “In case you couldn’t tell…it’s our birthday. Plus, we’ve got a surprise for you this Tuesday. #Google Chrome,” it said in the post.

Developed by Google LLC, the freeware web browser was labelled as a ‘fresh take on the browser’ and the company believed it would add value for users. It was initially designed for the Microsoft Windows and was later incorporated in Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android. It is also the main component of Chrome OS, where it serves as a platform for running web apps. As per the recent media reports, Google Chrome is the most widely used in the world with over 66% usage share as a desktop browser and over a 50% share on smartphones. The browser is one of the most used in all countries except Africa.

The company allows its users to synchronize their bookmarks, history, and settings across all devices with the browser installed by sending and receiving data through a chosen Google account which in turn updates all signed-in instances of Chrome. The authentication process of the same happens either through Google credentials or a sync passphrase. In one of the recent development made in the browser, Google announced the launch of a version of Chrome that includes augmented reality and virtual reality devices. The announcement was made in May, last year.

The tech giant is now aiming to become one whole platform in itself. It is already powering Chrome OS and the Chrome engineers are continuously working on improving the website by releasing new apps and features to make it more user-friendly.
