First day at DU ? keep these things in mind

DU will be opening its gates for the first batch of 2019-20 on Saturday (July 20). Nearly 90 per cent of the seats at the university have been filled after the fifth cut-off was released Friday. Head of Admissions Committee, Rajeev Gupta said, “For students who have enrolled, the orientation programme is scheduled for 10 am at their respective colleges. Their classes will begin as per the schedules, to be shared during the orientation.”

Anti-ragging measures: DU has put anti-ragging measures in place, including a helpline, along with police vigilance. In case of any challenges, students can call 27667221 for North Campus, 24119832 for South Campus or 1801805522 for both campuses.

Accommodation: Having a place of residence is of utmost importance, especially for those who hail from outside Delhi. While the hostel cut-offs have been released by DU, it is impossible to grant a room or bed to each student who enrolls. Students can explore several options close to their college, with their parents, such as paying guest (PG) accommodation, rented apartments and private hostel facilities.

Documents required: Students must remember to carry necessary documents, photographs, a water bottle, diary and pen. To apply for a college identity card, you will also require government-approved identity proof (with photocopies) and multiple passport-sized pictures. Since the rules and norms will be shared during the lectures delivered in the orientation programme, it is important to attend all the sessions. Meanwhile, the HRD Ministry has also released guidelines for colleges holding orientation programmes.

What to wear: This is a frequently asked question among Freshers and the answer is simple — wear whatever you are comfortable in, as long as it is clean and neat. However, students are usually advised to wear semi-formals for their first day of college.

Travelling: DTC and Delhi Metro Corporation have assured assistance through signboards and security to students. Candidates should carry the respective maps when they travel or take the help of mobile apps offered by the DTC (bus service) and Delhi Metro (train service)
