Delhi University’s executive council (EC) will decide on the corrective action against chemistry department head Ramesh Chandra, who is facing sexual harassment accusations, on September 27. The EC’s meeting after 6 months.
Chandra was blamed of sexual harassment by an ad hoc teacher and the matter was sent to the internal complaint committee (ICC). After a extended delay, ICC found the professor convict and recommended corrective action. However, DU postponed action against him for various months.
The teacher had filed a complaint against Chandra on December 21, 2017 claiming that he and 6 other professors had used improper language against her during her interview in November. The case got postponed and in spite of the ICC rule that investigation must be completed in 90 days, it went on for 5 months and the report was freed on May 21, 2018. The VC and registrar had received the ICC report, but had alleged that they were “discussing” the issue.
Chandra has declined all accusations against him. Chandra had told that the report will set a bad criterion for the future and they will not be able to even ask questions during recruitment interviews.
