The Registration process for admission into Delhi University closed on Saturday Night. Over 2,58, 388 students have proceeded ahead and made the payment whereas only one transgender candidate has submitted application for admission in Delhi University.
University has so far received several applications under the different categories. Under the newly introduced EWS Qouta , 5,528 Male candidates , 3,562 Female candidates and one from the third gender applied for admission.
The DU had last year received 101 applications from the third gender —the highest since 2015, when it introduced the category. No admission has been done in the third gender category in regular colleges till date.The university, last year, had established a transgender resource centre on North Campus to offer higher education counselling to transgender students
According to the officials in the admission committee, most of the third gender category students prefer School Of Open Learning (SOL) which offers them Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses through correspondence.
This year there has been an increase of 10% seats in the EWS Category under the Post Graduate and Undergraduate courses , leading to an increase of 62,000 seats . There will also be a separate list for the EWS Category
For the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) and sports quota, the NCC was the top preference for candidates under the ECA, while football was the first preference for candidates under the sports quota, according to numbers shared by the Delhi University and Debate (English), quiz, fine arts, theatre were among the top five ECA quota that received the maximum applications.
Other activities that emerged among the top 10 were music (vocal), NSS, creative writing, dance and debate (Hindi).
This year, there are 14 disciplines — creative writing, dance, debate, digital media, fine arts, music, music instrumental (Indian), music instrumental (western), theatre, quiz, divinity, NCC, NSS and yoga — under the extra-curricular activities (ECA) quota
Other sports that made it to the top 10 preferences were kabaddi, badminton, handball, taekwondo and kho-kho, There are Twenty-seven sports that are the part of the sports quota. These include 24 sports that are part of various competitions like Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games .
