Despite a day of disapproval and discord by members of the Academic Council (AC), Delhi University has managed to introduce the Ordinance XII E for employment of teachers on a contract basis with fixed salaries. The rule says that contractual teachers will be employed for vacancies for one year.
Pankaj Garg, AC Member said that they were asserting against the proposal since the morning, but the matter was brought up and passed with our note of discord.
Saikat Ghosh, AC Member said that they already have the provision for temporary appointments for vacancies filled by ad hoc teachers for 4 months. Since these vacancies can be filled by teachers appointed on an ad hoc basis, the contractual appointment is not required in DU. It has forced DU to add to the already unscrupulous conditions prevalent for ad hoc teachers by introducing contractual employment in which there are no benefits, no alimony, no leaves, no increments, and no job security.”
The AC was also, till late Wednesday night, holding discussions about the re-employment policy wherein a teacher who has retired at the age of 65 could come back and teach.
