The notice was issued by the colleges due to the lack of direction from the HRD Ministry or the administration of the University of Delhi regarding the ad hoc teachers.
In a notice issued by Aryabhatta College, it has been stated that the services of six of its ad hoc teachers are terminated with immediate effect from December 17, 2019, While Lady Shri Ram College has issued a memorandum naming an ad hoc teachers stating that her services will no longer be required with immediate effect from December 16, 2019. Keshav Mahavidyalaya in its notice has stated that all the ad hoc teachers appointed and renewed from July 21, 2019, onwards are subject to the approval of the competent authority.
In a letter from the Delhi University dated August 28, 2019, the colleges were advised to fill the permanent vacancies at the earliest and appoint the guest faculty in the interim against the new vacancies coming up for the first time in 2019-20. Due to this several colleges have failed to issue the appointment letters to the ad hoc teachers at the time of renewal of their 120-day contract or release the salaried to fill the vacancies with the guest teachers which have caused the confusion over what the new vacancies were.
After the teachers from Delhi University protested on December 4, 2019, the letter was amended to include the ad-hoc teachers stating that they will be appointed to fill up the vacancies to ensure the smooth functions of the colleges and their appointment will continue this year until permanent appointments are made.
Aryabhatta College Principal Manoj Sinha has stated that the principals have however while speaking to the media have stated that there is no official communication has been made to them to date. They have stated that the news has been conveyed to them only via news and social media and since December 16, 2019, was the last day of the semester they have had to tell the ad hoc teachers that their services will no longer be required. They have also stated that in case the situation is clarified by the Delhi University or the HRD Ministry in the next few weeks they will extend the appointment of the teachers in the next semester.
