Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) – the national level students group as written to UGC, asking it to hold the pending University and College Exams only in offline mode. Representatives from the students’ group ABVP have formally submitted a memorandum to the expert committee appointed by the University Grants Commission. The memorandum consists of suggestions and ideas from students on the issues faced by the education sector due the Covid-19 pandemic. The Commission has appointed a high-level committee to look at the feasibility of holding exams amid the on-going lockdown announced due to COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the memorandum submitted by the ABVP, students from leading colleges and universities across the contry have expressed their dislike for the annual semester exams being conducted in online mode. As per the students group, over 3000 students from universities across Delhi including Delhi University, JNU, Ambedkar University and Delhi Technological University, have said that they do not favour the idea of online examinations. The suggestions of students were collected by ABVP through an online Google Forms application in which students have provided detailed responses and suggestions. Furthermore, students have also urged the Commissions to not take any immediate decision on it without consulting all stakeholders including students. In a statement issued after submitting the memorandum, ABVP officials said that “”We suggest that they give their exams via regular mode (offline) whenever the lockdown is completely lifted.” F
Give Priority to Exams for Final Year Students
Furthermore, the memorandum submitted by the students has also appealed UGC and its expert committee to consider holding annual exams for the final year students first. In addition to this, the students have also urged commission to only hold exams for the limited course curriculum which was completed in classroom teaching, prior to the announcement of lockdown. This will give a fair chance to the students to perform better and will not impact their scores which will be important for their professional career ahead.
Other Key Recommendation
In addition to the aforementioned suggestions, the students’ body also submitted several other recommendations which include:
- Exam for 1st and 2nd Year Students to be clubbed with future semester exams, if lockdown is extended
- Number of papers for which exam is to be held should be distributed evenly across next year’s semester
- Online Submission of Internal Assessment Projects should be optional
