VC post no more vacant at Visva Bharati

A senior official at the ministry of human resource development confirmed, ending the two years of vagueness, that Bidyut Chakraborty, a Delhi University professor has been designated as the Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati University. The approval for the same has been given by President, Ram Nath Kovind.

During Smriti Irani’s regime as HRD minister, Sushanta Duttagupta was removed from office in February 2016 on grounds of irregularities and ever since the central university was managing without a full-time VC.

Talking about qualifications, Chakraborty has a PhD from the London School of Economics and is a professor since 1998 from department of political science in DU.

Allegations of sexual harassment were levied on Chakraborty in 2007. He however, was acquitted of all charges and aced the top post at Shantiniketan.
