This is one of the toughest situation which everyone is facing in the entire world because of Covid-19 pandemic. This global crisis has made people unemployed from their daily jobs and without job people are helpless with no money in hands.
Where Government, NGO’s, people are helping others by providing food, masks and all necessarily items there are some people( Mainly Landlords) who are exploiting students( who are staying in PG because of Lock down) to pay rent in this crisis. Even after our Government has released a notice for all banks, landlords, private agencies, etc to not take EMI’s, Rents, school fees for next 3 months starting from April, 2020.
If any person has enough money in bank account to pay EMI’s, bills or rent, then they can pay accordingly but those who don;t have enough money right now can pay after 3 months without any fine.
Recently, a final year student of Bharti college who is staying in PG from past few months faced the same issue with landlord. Her landlord is demanding full rent without any concession. Because of this nationwide lockdown their parents are not able to pay rent which is a genuine reason at this point of time. The same situation happened with a second year student from Gargi College who is unable to pay her rent form past 2 months and was forced to leave PG if she didn’t pay the rent on time.
We would like to bring this issue to the government of India to take necessary steps in this regard and appeal to all PG owners to show some humanity in these tough times. This is also a request to all Student Housing agencies like Oxfordcaps, Housittt, Students inn, Stanza Living to help students in this regard.
