Delhi University students breaking barriers

The 96th convocation of Delhi University on Monday saw several unique students who had gone past all the traditional conventions and pursued their studies. Some of them, like Virender Singh and Narottam Singh proved to us that it’s never too late to learn.

Virender Singh, 62 was like any other army man. Until one day, after thirty six years of serving in the army, he took a voluntary retirement to do his PhD on Organisational Pride and Performance.

After army, Singh was also involved with the corporate sector and entered into a business partnership, due to which he rarely had time for studies. But in 2012, he finally decided to go ahead with his PhD. Being a bright student in his graduate days, it was not difficult for him to return to academics.

Also sitting among the crowd of college students was Narottam Singh, 48, who quit his government job as a scientist three years ago to pursue his masters in Buddhist Studies from DU. He began his master’s in 2016 and completed in 2018. He was accompanied by his father on Monday, where he was awarded with a gold medal.

According to Singh, there is a certain problem in acceptance in India when it comes to students who are a little aged. However he feels that Delhi University is still better.
