Rise In Number of Applications in Delhi University

On Friday, it is said that there is total 2,78,578 registrations has received by the University of Delhi for the 2018-19 admission process, which is more than last year i.e, 2,07,751 registrations to the about 56,000 undergraduate (UG) seats.

This year, the Delhi University has received 1,44,248 registrations from male aspirants, 1,34,297 registrations from female aspirants and 29 registrations from the other category. Out of these, 1,75,719 are from unreserved category students. The online portal of Delhi University closed at 11. 59 p.m. on Thursday for registrations.

The number of registrations under ECA (Extracurricular Activity Quota)  has lesser down to 17,371 this year than the last year i.e, 19,951.

Delhi University said that students who are applying for admissions under ECA will not be given more than 15% relaxation/concession in academic merit. The aspirants will also have to accomplish the minimum eligibility criteria of the programme.

There are two levels of Trials namely, preliminary and final. The evaluation of uploaded certificates is only for those students who qualify for the final trials.

Delhi University said that the aspirants must carry all important certificates in original [and a self-attested photocopy] for evaluation of uploaded certificates at the time of the final trial. 

Aspirants should secure at least 50% marks in the final trials to be eligible for the final list. This year, for sports quota, 12,423 registrations were received.

In admission on the basis of sports trial, a maximum of 40 marks of 100 will be reserved for merit and different level certificates which will account for different marks. Some sports certificate will not be considered namely, prize money league/  Invitational /memorial/ open/ /ranking competitions.
Under sports quota, sportspersons will get direct admission without sports trial, who has represented India and were funded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

This year, particular colleges have earlier uploaded a list of sportspersons they require for different individual and team games. On the basis of the vacancy in a particular college, admissions will be given to aspirants.

Evaluation boycott

Meanwhile, the Delhi University Registrar has claimed to all teachers who are boycotting judgment to that they should immediately join the process of the evaluation work at their various evaluation centers and evaluate answer scripts.

The Registrar wrote in his appeal that if the boycott continues, it will matter undue delay in announcement of results and this somehow spoil the career of many aspirants who are pursuing various undergraduate programmes. He also said that it is the essential duty of teachers to participate actively in the examination/ evaluation process, as per service agreement.

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) said that they would check the boycott decision in its meeting on June 13.
