While admissions have closed for general category in Delhi University (DU) that saw high
cut-off in several top colleges and courses, the university is not finding many takers for the reserved category seats.
Till now, the DU has admitted around 57,080 students against the total 56,000 seats across all colleges. The admission process is likely to continue till July 20, when academic session begins in the university.
A senior DU official, told Mail Today, “For the vacant reserved seats, we have already received hundreds of applications from the students till Tuesday. Verification of their documents is underway and the final list will be out on July 20.”
He said several students who could not secure admission in the first four cut-off lists have also applied for the reserved category seats. As per the rules, for the sixth cut-off list, only those students can apply who could not make it to the first four lists.
Officials said students under the reserved categories tend to wait for the last cut-offs.
Moreover, with the growing trend of opting for professional courses, students who, even if they take admission in the first three cut-offs in DU, tend to switch.
As per the DU notification released on Saturday, the sixth cut off list will admit students
under a "special drive" where only students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PwD (Persons with Disability) and other categories, who missed a chance to avail admission in the previous four cut-offs lists, can seek admission in this “special drive”.
The Delhi University has a total of 56000 seats across its colleges. Regarding the proportion of these seats, while 22.5 per cent seats are reserved for SC and ST, 27 per cent seats are reserved for OBC.The remaining seats between 3 to 5 per cent- are reserved for categories like Supernumerary (Armed forces), Kashmiri immigrants etc.
