WILL DELHI UNIVERSITY NOT REOPEN THIS YEAR?
A few days back, several student bodies protested against Delhi University to reopen the campuses for all students. From hunger strikes to silent protesting students have made #ReopenDU trending in social media. They have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with online classes. Stating that online exams are just a ‘formality’, students have thrown light on all the negative points of online college.
Amid the chaos, a senior official from DU clarified that campus cannot be reopened till the time the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) allows 100 per cent seating capacity. Further, it added that they will hold a meeting after 10 days to decide on campus reopening.
“How can we reopen until and unless DDMA allows 100 per cent seating capacity. 60% of students of the university are from outside Delhi. We can’t ask them to come here, stay in a hostel and take online classes since only 50 per cent seating capacity is allowed,” DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said to PTI. He also added that no decision on reopening the university can be taken now.
Offline laboratory classes were resumed only for final year students of undergraduate and postgraduate from September 16, 2021. However, the classrooms saw a very thin attendance.
The release of the academic calendar recently stated that the classes for the first year of undergraduate courses will begin from November 22. With the commencement of the new session, there is a curiosity among the freshers if they will ever receive offline education.
