Candidates are making extensive use of social media
With less than a week before Delhi University (DU) goes to the polls, student organisation and their candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters. From speeches and road shows to nukkad nataks , the streets of DU are bustling with campaigning activities. DelhiDelhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections are scheduled for Wednesday.
While the outfits contesting the elections have different opinions on most topics, they all have one thing in common — the use of social media.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) national media coordinator Monica Chaudhary said, “We have a special focus on this sector. Along with an ABVP online team, our candidates have formed their own personal teams in the social media space. This has been helpful in expressing our ideas to the students.”
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) too has extended its campaigning online. “Apart from basic use of Facebook and Twitter, we have shot and edited videos through which we want to portray our stand to the students,” said NSUI national Team
All India Students Association (AISA) said : “ Reaching out this large number of students is quite difficult and due to lack of time we can only rely on social media for campaigning “
Apart from using social media, each party has formed several groups of volunteers for campus-to-campus and door-to-door campaigning.
The parties are also organising opportunities for their candidates to give speeches in every college and have direct interaction with voters.
Some student organisation have also toyed with the idea of organising flash mobs, road shows and nukkad nataks to reach out to the voters With little time left to promote and advertise their ballot numbers, some candidates blamed the ‘rain gods’.
