With the semester exams lined up this winters, the cold stroke is one less hassle everyone wishes to do away with as they complete their last minute preparations for such exams

So here are 7 ways to beat the heat this exam season:

1. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate

The importance of hydrating our body by drinking lots and lots of water cannot be emphasized more than ever as the temperatures soar higher than ever. Water can cool our bodies inside out. A slice of lime or orange with a few springs of mint in a bottle of water will make it more refreshing.

So the next time you sit down for a marathon revision session, keep that bottle of water handy.

2. Cool inside, Cool outside

Sweet and ripe summer fruits and fresh veggies have a cooling effect on our internal systems.

So the next time you feel like gorging on something between your study schedule, munch on a bowl full of freshly cut seasonal fruits to keep your body cool and your mind fresh.

3. Body hacks to a cooler self

Our body has a number of pulse points that double up as the best cooling points of our body, for example our wrist, neck etc.

Applying ice cubes wrapped in a towel or anything cool to these pulse points will help cool down our body more quickly and effectively.

4. Cucumbers to the rescue

Exam time calls for an endless series of late night preparations and sleepless study routines which are sure to leave our eyes all puffy , not to mention the dreaded dark circles around the eyes.

A quick fix to all this is nothing but a cool cucumber. Slice up a couple of cucumber slices from your fridge to soothe your eyes after a long summer day. This hack will also help bring down the overall temperature of the body.

5. Unplug

Even a single incandescent bulb can generate a significant amount of heat.

If you are working on your computer or preparing off the internet, be sure to let your computer take a nap. Set it to go into low power ‘sleep’ mode if you are away from it for more than 10 minutes and it will give off less heat.

All electronic devices from computers to TVs to smartphones are also potent heat sources, so shut them off and unplug them if they are not in use.

6. Exercise is always a must

We have all heard the oft repeated proverb, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Well guess what? Researchers have proven that our ancestors covered upto 12 miles a day. That means our fancy brains developed not while we were lounging around but while we were working out.

Dimple Mirchandani, a nutrition and health expert recommends early morning or evening exercise routine, preferably indoors, as exercising can be stressful, given the heat.

7. Think cool

Walter A Brown, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical Schools of Brown and Tufts Universities and an expert in the placebo effect states that ” Reading about cold can take your mind off the thermometer, evoking one’s own experience of ice and snow”.

So the next time you pick up a book to take some time off your study schedule and relax, sit with ‘A Winter’s Tale’ , ‘The Call of Wild’, ‘Doctor Zhivago’ or ‘ Smilla’s Sense of Snow.

This will definitely help you relax and refresh your mind before another round of revision.

So there you go!  This heat may try to beat you. But with these cool hacks and tips , you can be assured to ace in the race this exam season.
